Safety Tips:          (images taken: www.googleimages.com) If you are travelling to Rio: Always be aware of  where you are and what's going around you. Don't go into the favelas. Don't flash your money or credit cards around.              Leave expensive jewellery at home. And, if you can afford it, get a driver to show you around. If you are a smart traveller , Rio is a fantastic destination.     

  (video taken : www.google.com/youtubevideos)  (account: pandreopoulou02@gmail.com) Favela (which is a Brazilian-Portuguese word for "slum) is the name given to the very poor areas of Rio.     The favelas are neighbourhoods with poorly-made homes that have usually been built by the people living in them.     Although they 're racially-mixed , the majority were created when black slaves were given their freedom in 1888, but had no jobs or homes to go to.         It's impossible to drive a car into most favelas because the streets are very narrow.     In these alleys , crime rates are very high because of the gang culture that exists there.
